Meet The 28420 Group.
The 28.420 Ten Meter Group came about from an interest in local communications on the ten-meter band surrounding the SE Whitfield County, Georgia area. This frequency was chosen to allow all licensed Amateur Radio Operators, Technician class and above, to participate.
As we approach the first anniversary of the group, we recently had 40 check-ins to this “rag-chew” group from north of Chattanooga to near Atlanta. Though we are past the peak of Solar Cycle 25, many “DX” stations have also joined the group.
We meet every night at 00:30 UTC (8:30 pm summer & 7:30 pm winter local time) and continue to around 02:00 UTC. We also have a face-to-face meet-up at the Yellowstone Steak & Buffet every Thursday at around 11:30 am.

The WIREMAN distributes product through individual mail order, hamfest dealers, and fixed location vendors on a retail and wholesale basis. We are located in rural South Carolina in warehouse, office, and shipping facilities. Our only visitors are shipping and delivery people; there is no showroom. I was first licensed as WN3AKJ. Since then I have held W3AKJ, DL4YJ and W4AZM. I have an Extra Class Amateur Radio license and a Commercial “T” license. My Elmer was my Dad, licensed in the ’20’s as W9GLS, then W4YBM & DL4PC. We started with crystal sets, gradually morphing to R390, BC610E, 300′ V-beams, 60′ high spaced every 60 degrees with open wire feed, etc.
My first transmitter was a home built one-tube (117L7/M7GT) and a S38 receiver. My first DX contact was a VP2. (Wow!!) The first “exotic” antenna I built was a Bird Cage antenna (folded full size quad) with many progressions since: V-beams, Rhombics, Sterba curtains, Quads, OCF, NVIS, Beverage, etc.
